You could argue that you could sort of switch the names around in those two statements and they would be as true, and you'd be right for the most part, SE is more secular and more focused on finding a problem then solving it in the most suitable way. I immediately filled a line-running combat role and enjoyed the more frequent fighting. When I got Avorion I made a kick-ass, mean looking ship, then pruned some pirates and started making serious space-bucks before refitting my ship and beginning to explore the galaxy. I tend to avoid conflict with NPCs or other players and prefer to make myself useful creating and programming pieces of engineering.

The programmable blocks in SE are pretty stone-cold as well, you can do a great deal with them.īut they fill different roles, SE for me is always a more sedate game. Bloxels work well and they allow for a less fiddly construction when it comes to weirder shapes / circular shapes. SE is, or at least has the capacity to be, more attractive than Avorion, but personally I saw that as a boon, the stylised look of Avorion works well for it and keeps the requirements down. They are all in the same vein, I'm a long-time player of SE. They'll be fixing this too, but until then at-least that's a work around.Ĭonsidering the amount of garbage out there, the price point and what I'm seeing so far it seems worthy without question to me. Now my ship is gigantic but I can still easily "dock" without exploding, sending the station flying off into nearby asteroids and other assorted "ooooh ♥♥♥♥" moments. Interactions are extremely limited in capability right now, and I mean the entire interaction dialog system not just docking.īut to dock you basically have to damn near physically touch a tiny little dock bay with the root block of your ship - learning this the hard way made me immediately scrap my first ship and rebuild from scratch with the root block and docking the first priority. So it's possible to get a leg up and make profit.
#STARMADE SPACE STATIONS INSTALL#
You can install a trade module upgrade and examine detected trade routes etc. There's a lot to trade if you want - but that's also tedious, because of the current docking mechanism. Not sure how deep the faction and economy actually are - I hope the intent is for them to go deep. It won't just mean resources will keep generating - it should mean (IMO) the devs can create deep, immersive sector activities (for the player to do, as well as invasions and anything else) to help the galaxy feel living - not just around the player. They're working on keeping sectors with player property active when connected. May be planned?Ĭurrently the game unloads sectors if noone's around, so mines and factories in them go dormant until loaded again. No idea if it's possible to create mining ships, assign them to the mine then have them mine the sector for everything possible. However that probably flips to positive at some point during play since owning mines is a thing and according to the dev, NPC will trade there. In this game you've just got some mining lasers hanging off whatever you made. The mining is boring - unlike in SE simply because in SE many times it's the act of experimentation, failure and triumph in creating "the thing" doing that mining in the first place.

Parts of the editor are extremely rudimentary - like the x/y/z scaling direct number entry input is tedious because it has no standard input commands like select all, home end etc - but overall the editor is pretty flexible, especially with shapes including custom scaling for corners and other aspects. If you do that thoroughly you'll save massive wasted efforts, resources and total ♥♥♥♥ ship designs. If you do grab it I recommend the top priority be deep diving the ship editor and understanding it. Action (combat) is frequent, involving everyone because of faction wars, incursions and otherwise disputes. That's a good sign considering how far it has to go. So far I find the game fun and interesting.
#STARMADE SPACE STATIONS MOD#
Picked this up yesterday while waiting for the SE EEM mod to get sorted - made infinitely more difficult by the massive API changes that showed up in dev. Got bored with Starmade as well - quite awhile back actually.
